Homer Saxton 1928-2023

Homer Clair Saxton, 94, of rural Horton, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at his home, with his wife by his side.

He was born on Oct. 25, 1928, on the farm in Atchison County, the son of Wayland and Mabel Boyle Saxton. Homer served in the U.S. Army/Air Force and received his GED from Atchison County High School in 1948.

On May 8, 1953, he married Wanza Wagoner in Leavenworth. Homer was a farmer/rancher and worked at Goodyear for 33 years. He lived in Muscotah from 1958-1966. He built a home in Holton, where he resided from 1966-1980. He then returned to the family farm on the Atchison County Lake, where he retired.

Survivors include his wife of the home; son, Wayland (Cyndi) Saxton of rural Horton; two daughters, Debbra (David) Snyder of Holton and Jo Rae (Wesley) Heller of Bend, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors was held on Friday, March 17, 2023 at the Kennekuk Cemetery southeast of Horton. A message may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com. Memorial contributions are designated to the Salvation Army.
