Paul Marmet 1935-2023
Paul D. Marmet, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, with his family by his side in Topeka.
Paul was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Sabetha to Viola and Wesley Marmet. He graduated from Honey Creek High School in 1953.
Paul worked at the Sabetha Meat Plant in 1956 and then attended Kansas State University while working part-time in the meat sciences department. While attending college, Paul served in the National Guard for three years in Sabetha. It was during his service in the National Guard that he met his future wife when he was introduced on a guard weekend by his soon to be brother-in-law.
On June 16, 1962, he married Peggy Griebat in Morrill. Shortly after, they started their life in Topeka, where they raised their daughters Stacy and Nicole.
Paul’s career with Falley’s/Food4Less began in 1962 as a journeyman meat cutter at the 21st and Gage location. In 1964, he transferred to the White Lakes location to manage the meat department. In 1969, he was promoted to the position of director of meat operations for Falley’s and relocated to the Central Plant on Kansas Avenue.
After spending his entire career working for Falley’s, Paul retired in 1998 and found his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and going on family vacations.
Paul was a member of the Meatcutters Union, Central Congregational Church, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church-Topeka and Trinity Lutheran Church-Holton.
Survivors include two daughters, Stacy Lasswell of Holton and Nicole (Justin) Stuke of Shawnee; four grandchildren, Zane, Sydney, Braden and Cassidy; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy and three brothers, Mel Marmet, Marion Marmet and Merle Marmet.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at Penwell-Gabel’s Dove Southwest Chapel, 3700 S.W. Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, KS 66610.
