Bruce Pierson 1936-2022

Bruce Allan Pierson, 85, of Larkinburg, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022, in Topeka. He finished his earthly race and returned home to be with the Lord after a two-month battle with a brain tumor.

He was born on Nov. 24, 1936 in Woodsville, N.H., the son of John and Mable Sweet Pierson. He grew up in East Corinth, Vt., and graduated from Bradford Academy in Bradford, Vt., in 1954. He honorably served in the United States Air Force.

Bruce married his beloved wife, Viola Jean Perdue, in East Corinth, Vt. She preceded him in death from breast cancer on Feb. 26, 2009. Bruce was also preceded in death by his parents and his four brothers, John, Melvin, Peter and Gene.

Survivors include a son, Bret Pierson, Larkinburg; two daughters, Sherree (Jay) Johnson, Aurora, Mo., and Shawn (David) Bruns, Olathe; a sister, Jonilee (Chuck) Dow, Buena Vista, Colo.; four grandchildren, Crystal (Cody) Guyear, Adam (Andrea) Johnson, Nathanael (Angie) Bruns and Elise Bruns; and seven great-grandchildren, Braden Sides, Chaseley Guyear, Celise Guyear, Emory Downing, Colwyn Guyear, Brynnlee Bruns and Blaire Bruns.

Bruce was a devoted husband, father and grandpa who loved his family deeply. From his early years living on a dairy farm in Vermont, he developed a strong work ethic that he passed on to his children. While living in Vermont, Bruce shared his family’s passion for driving race cars.

Over the years, he owned a gas station, worked as a mechanic and operated his own trucking company. Bruce could fix anything and spent many hours working on a project in his shop until he got it just right. He loved sports and especially enjoyed watching the Boston Celtics, KU basketball and K-State football. Bruce always tried to do the right thing and was friendly to everyone he met.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 4 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will immediately follow in Miller Cemetery in Everest. Family and friends will meet from 9 a.m. Monday until service time.
