Charles Albee 1935-2022
Charles “Rodney” Albee, 86, Hiawatha, died Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Maple Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Dec. 26, 1935, in St. Joseph, Mo., the son of Charles and Velma Earnhart Albee. He had lived in the St. Joseph-Hiawatha area all of his life, attending school in St. Joseph and graduating in 1953 from Benton High School.
Mr. Albee joined the 139th Airlift Wing, Missouri Air National Guard, based out of Rosecrans Airport at St. Joseph, retiring as a master sergeant in 1983. He also tended bar for a few years for the Eagles Nest in St. Joseph.
He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in St. Joseph and the American Legion.
He married Jo Ann Osteen on Dec. 9, 1955. She died Jan. 20, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: John Albee, David Albee and Herb Albee; a sister, Ruth Long; two sisters-in-law, Ida Jean Albee and Betty Albee; and a grandchild, Sweet Jourdan.
Survivors include his children, Stan Albee and wife Julie, Hiawatha, Steve Albee and wife Mary, Holton, and Suzy Hinton and husband David, rural Hiawatha; eight grandchildren, Michele, Amanda, Mandy and husband Dan, Paul and wife Tammy, Jason, Robert and wife Shelby, Tyler and husband Ryan and Taylor; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
It was Mr. Albee’s wish to be cremated with a private family service. A register book to sign and folders will be available after Wednesday, March 23.
