Lloyd Potts 1948-2022

Lloyd Galen “Et nwe tek” Potts, 73, Oklahoma City, Okla., died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, in Oklahoma City.

He was born June 6, 1948, in Horton, the son of Maynard Leo and Coralene Keesis Potts. He attended Powhattan Grade School and Pawnee Indian Boarding School.

Mr. Potts worked in construction and heavy equipment operations, and he was disabled in a dozer accident.

He was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and a member of the Potawatomi Pentecostal Church.

He married Peggy Johnson. She survives.

Other survivors include his mother, Venida Chenault, Lawrence; three sons, Marland Ray Potts and wife Shelia, Tama, Iowa, and Terry Johnson and wife Barbara and Larry Berryhill, all of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three daughters, Deana Shelley Kapayou, Tama, Iowa, LaDonna Marie Garcia-DeLeon, Toledo, Iowa, and Loana Skalla and husband David, Oklahoma City, Okla.; a brother, Ed Potts and wife Shirley, Mayetta; three sisters, Voncile Mitchell, Mayetta, Doris Potts-Zyganiuk and husband Alexander, Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada, and Gloria June Keesis, Oklahoma City, Okla.; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maynard Leo and Coralene Keesis Potts; maternal grandparents, Jesse and Dora Keesis; paternal grandparents, Joe Bill and Rosan Lasley Koye Potts; two brothers, Vernon “Shkomak” Potts and Norman Potts; a sister, Barbara Tims; and two sons, Roger and Danny Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Potawatomi Pentecostal Church Cemetery, 10054 134th Rd., Mayetta. Family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
