Merle Holliday 1930-2021
Merle Eugene Holliday, 91, Topeka, passed to his heavenly home on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021.
He was born Jan. 27, 1930, at his grandparents’ farm near Corning, the son of Virgil and Blanche (Williamson) Holliday. Merle accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of 27 and was baptized at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Honolulu, Hawaii, on May 19, 1957. He was a member of Topeka Baptist Church.
He attended schools in Jackson County and graduated from Holton High School in 1948. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1959. After returning to Holton in 1959, he was a city letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1985.
Merle married Lillian Dierking on June 21, 1953. They were later divorced. He married Katie (Moret) Stous on Nov. 27, 1976, at First Baptist Church in Holton.
Surviving are his wife, Katie; a brother, Richard Holliday, Kearney, Neb.; sons, Steven Holliday, Enid, Okla., Dennis Holliday, Holton, and Gary Holliday, Topeka; a stepson, Darrell Stous, Lubbock, Texas; and their families.
A private graveside service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
