LaVonne Smith 1928-2021
LaVonne Smith, 92, of Denison, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021 at The Pines South in Holton.
She was born Oct. 1, 1928, in Falls City, Neb., the daughter of Paul and Lucy (Vaughn) Kelsay.
LaVonne graduated from Holton High School in 1946. She worked as a cracker packer for Sunshine Biscuits in Kansas City, retiring after 28 years. She was also a homemaker and a true “Farmer’s Daughter.”
She was a member of Denison Bible Church and longtime member of NRA. LaVonne enjoyed caring for her horses on the farm.
She married Paul A. Smith on Dec. 10, 1949 in Holton. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lucy Kelsay; two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include three daughters, Jane Howlett of Kennewick, Wash., Cindy Seneker (Richard) of Kansas City and Gwen Gregory (Charlie) of Denison; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021 at the Holton Cemetery. LaVonne will lie in state beginning Sunday afternoon, Sept. 12, 2021 until 6:30 p.m., and Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
