Tom Gold 1924-2020

Thomas Henry “Tom” Gold, 96, Goff, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, at Medicalodges Jackson County.

He was born June 30, 1924, in Baker, the son of Thomas H. and Edna Anderson Gold. He graduated from Goff High School and attended Kansas State University for one semester before enlisting.

Mr. Gold served in the U.S. Air Force in the Southwest Pacific during World War II as a navigator on a B-24 bomber.

He was a member of Goff United Methodist Church, American Legion in Goff, Goff Lions Club. He served on the USD 441 Board of Education and Rural Water District.

He married Alyce M. Burke on June 27, 1948, in Bendena. She preceded him in death on April 18, 2004. He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Gold; a granddaughter, Chelsea Gold; and five sisters, Helen Schuetz, Agnes Maddy, Etta Zabel, Dorothy Edwards and Jane Bottiger.

Survivors include four sons, John Gold, Topeka, Gary Gold and wife Connie, Hugoton, David Gold and wife Cheryl, Emporia, and Patrick Gold, Goff; a sister, Anna May McCrerey, Frisco, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gold will lie in state until 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Private family graveside services with military honors will be held Friday at Fairview Cemetery in Goff.
