Troy Moppin 1956-2019

Troy Edward Moppin Jr., 63, of Leavenworth, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019, at his residence surrounded by family.

He was born Oct. 9, 1956, in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of Troy E. Sr. and Neva (Wright) Moppin.

Troy joined the U.S. Army on Dec. 6, 1973, and was honorably discharged on Dec. 12, 1976. He later worked as a correctional officer for 18 years at the Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary.

Troy loved gardening, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends, especially his dog, Milo.

He married Rose E. Patterson on Dec. 8, 1982, in Leavenworth. She preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 2016. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Moppin.

Survivors include a son, Troy E. Moppin III and wife Kendra of Holton; four sisters, Shirley Crawford and husband Roy, Penny Biddle, Wanda Wagner and Neva Vaughn and husband Ronnie; two brothers, J.D. Moppin and Billy Moppin; a stepdaughter, Tammy Tomrell; two stepsons, Bob Heckman and wife Suzzane and Patrick Heckman and wife Kristy; and best friend, Mark Swope.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 9, at Belden Larkin Funeral Home in Leavenworth with Pastor Damian Efta of Church of the Open Door officiating. Graveside services with military honors were held at Sunset Memory Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
