John Hollander 1934-2019
John Franklin Hollander, 85, of Holton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at his home.
He was born Sept. 20, 1934, in Holton, the son of Frank Joseph and Louise Christine (Wagner) Hollander.
John attended grade school at Ontario and Lawn Ridge and graduated from Whiting High School in 1952. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.
John married Charlotte Georgia Brown on Aug. 12, 1956, in Whiting. They shared more than 60 years of marriage.
He spent most of his life in Jackson County as a farmer and carpenter. He enjoyed traveling and sharing vegetables from his garden. John had attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1967.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, on June 6, 2017; and a son, David, on Jan. 6, 1964.
Survivors include a daughter, Dianne P. Wake (Jim) of Muscotah; a son, Dennis L. Hollander (Janice) of Holton; a brother, Max Hollander (Sharon) of Whiting; and two sisters, Rosemary Thonen (Ronald) of Circleville and Sharon Sumner (Ron) of Topeka.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery in Whiting. He will lie in state beginning Monday afternoon at the funeral home. The family will meet with friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Mercer Funeral Home.
