Edward Samqua 1937-2017
Edward Delaine “Nash-Wa-Duk” Samqua, 80, Topeka, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
He was born April 13, 1937, on the Kickapoo Reservation near Horton, the son of Louis and Emma Cadue Samqua. He attended Red Top Grade School on the reservation and graduated from Powhattan High School in 1955.
Mr. Samqua was a drywall finisher, working for Lou Wabaunsee, Wyatt & Huhs and Kimble construction companies.
He was a member of the Kennekuk Church and had attended Bethel Baptist in Topeka. He was also a member of the Kickapoo Tribe and Painter’s Union.
He married Corrine Kay Arnold on April 8, 1961, in Holton. She survives.
Other survivors include three children, Steve E. Samqua, Gary D. Samqua and wife Lisa and Carol D. Samqua, all of Topeka; and two grandchildren, John and Serena Samqua. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Beulah Oliver, Vera Baldwin and Bertha Lieb; and three brothers, Pascal, Cletuis and Laverne Samqua.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Kickapoo Community Building with burial to follow in Kennekuk Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
