Willis McGee 1924-2017
Willis Edward “Fibber” McGee, 93, Holton, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Holton Community Hospital.
He was born March 8, 1924, in Holton, the son of Carl and Mary E. Hug McGee. He graduated from Mayetta High School in 1942.
Mr. McGee served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a lifetime mechanic, owning and operating McGee Service in Mayetta, Holton and at his home. He was a security guard at Holton Government Missile Base (now Jackson Heights schools), he worked for Holton Transport for nine years and as a mechanic at Skelly Station. He also worked for the City of Holton for 10 years as a power plant operator and for Holton Ready Mix for five years.
He attended the Presbyterian Church in Holton. He was a member of American Legion Post 44, and VFW Post 1367, and he was a volunteer firefighter for many years.
He married Betty Lou Cox on Oct. 26, 1945, in Topeka. She died Sept. 16, 1999.
Survivors include a son, Michael McGee and wife Vickie, Hoyt; two daughters, Carolyn Jacobsen and husband Dale, Circleville, and Jo Ingels and husband Steve, Holton; nine grandchildren, Randy Jacobsen and wife Sandy, Shane Jacobsen, Chad Jacobsen and wife Jamie, Micki Austin, J.D. McGee and wife Yvonne, Jeff Ingels, Kevin Ingels and wife Jennifer, Jeremy Ingels and wife Darla and Kyle Ingels and wife Katie; 17 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
