Owen McKee 1932-2017
Owen Lee McKee, 84, of Hoyt, passed away May 10, 2017, at The Piper facility in Kansas City, Kansas.
Owen was born in Fairview on Dec. 20, 1932, to Sidney and Ida (Bindel) McKee.
Owen graduated from Powhattan High School in 1950 and married Beverly Ann Rotz on June 15, 1952. That same year Owen joined the Air Force and served four years active duty as an airplane mechanic and subsequently served two years in the Air Force Reserve. Following his military service they moved to Topeka, where he was employed by Dupont. After he retired from Dupont he drove a school bus for the Hoyt school district.
Many knew Owen for his love of the outdoors, whether fishing, bird and coon hunting, horseback riding or camping. But most notable was his love of life, his quickness to smile and the twinkle in his eye when he was about to play a prank.
He is survived by his brother Larry (LuEtta), his sons David (Nancy) and Doug, his daughter Lori (John), two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; his parents; and his sisters, Virginia (Lloyd) Ashton, LaQuita (Carol) Monaghan and Naomi (Virgil) Schmidt.
No services will be held.
