Val McKinney 1934-2017
Val Kay Masquat McKinney, “N'schuckaquah,” 82, Lawrence, died Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at her home.
She was born Oct. 6, 1934, on the Kickapoo Reservation in Horton, the daughter of Robert and Carrie Masquat.
Ms. McKinney had a long working career, retiring from Haskell University.
She married John V. McKinney on Feb. 14, 1964.
Survivors include her siblings, Drusa Wabaunsee, Carole Garrison and Tee Villegas; five children, Jay Shuckahosee, Lori Howard, John, PJ and Logan McKinney; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Chub Masquat.
Drum services were held Sunday in the Kickapoo Tribal Building. Burial was held Monday morning. Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence is in charge of arrangements.
