Rosalie Brooks 1924-2017
Rosalie Brooks, 92, Topeka, died Thursday, March 23, 2017.
She was born Oct. 31, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Michael and Jeanette Michelson. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1946.
Mrs. Brooks worked at Forbes Air Base as a teletype operator and then at Southwestern Bell. She and her husband traveled the country and world in Christian ministry for 40 years, and she served as a pastor’s wife, missionary, teacher, church song leader and vocalist.
She was a member of Open Way Full Gospel Church in North Topeka for more than 30 years, and later Community Church in Topeka.
She married the Rev. Orville “Ray” Brooks on June 1, 1947. He died March 14, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Haselton; and a nephew, Toby Michelson.
Survivors include her twin sister, Rosella Hupp, Topeka; a brother, Calvin Michelson and wife Rosalind, San Antonio, Texas; and nine nieces and nephews and their families, including David Hupp, wife Mary and family of Mayetta.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Community Church, 1819 S.W. 21st St., Topeka. Interment will be held in West Lawn Memorial Gardens, 820 S.W. Auburn Road, Topeka. Mrs. Brooks will lie in state after 3 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Funeral Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence Ave., Topeka, where family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
