Harold Beems 1921-2017
Harold Milton Beems, 95, Topeka, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
He was born Sept. 9, 1921, in Holton, the son of Harold Ross and Gladys Violet Hull Beems.
Mr. Beems served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He and his wife owned and operated Beems Electric.
He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, Jayhawk Area Council and had received the Order of the Arrow; the Naval Mine Warfare Association; and the Independent Electrical Contractors Association.
He married Marjorie E. Zinn on March 29, 1956, at Grantville. She died May 16, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Berla Armstrong; and two brothers, Richard and Burwell.
Survivors include five children, William Beems, Albuquerque, N.M., Linda Burgen, Eskridge, Julia Miller, Denver, Colo., Nancy Seifert, St. Peters, Mo., and Mary Carson, White Hall, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Feb. 20 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence Ave., Topeka. Military honors followed in Rochester Cemetery, 1200 N.W. Menninger Road, Topeka.
