LaVerne McConnell 1925-2017
LaVerne McConnell, 91, Holton, died Monday, March 13, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
She was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Horton, the daughter of Louis and Josephine Marak Schuetz. She graduated from Horton High School and lived most of her life in the Jackson County area.
Mrs. McConnell owned and operated Bill’s Market with her husband for 12 years. After moving to Holton, she worked for Jackson County Headstart, where she later retired.
She married Billie G. McConnell on Feb. 24, 1949, in Horton. He died May 19, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Fern Banks; a brother, Lyle Schuetz; and a grandchild, Michael Alan McConnell.
Survivors include a daughter, Rita Ent and husband Elmer, Holton; a son, George McConnell and wife Carion, Atchison; four grandchildren, David Ent, Jennifer Berges, Amy Gab and Kristy McConnell; and five great-grandchildren, Hannah Ent, Dalton Ent, Peyton Gab, Avery Gab and Gage McConnell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Wetmore Cemetery. Family will greet friends 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
