Eugene Zwonitzer 1961-2017
Eugene M. “Gene” Zwonitzer, 55, Holton, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born March 22, 1961, in Topeka, the son of Larry Eugene and Judith Ann Moret Zwonitzer. He graduated from Holton High School in 1979 and lived all of his life in the Holton community.
Mr. Zwonitzer worked along with his father at Zwonitzer Propane, which he later owned.
He was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton. He was a long-time member of the Holton Fire Department, serving as fire chief for 15 years. He was also a member of the Kansas Fire Fighters Association and the Cat Backers.
He had been married to Marla Robbins. They divorced. He had also been married to and divorced from Jean Danner and Janet McKee.
Survivors include his father, Larry Zwonitzer, Holton; two daughters, Leah Ann Zwonitzer, Onaga, and Emily Gene Zwonitzer, Holton; four sons, Jay Summers, Topeka, and Mark Summers, Brett Summers and wife Allie and Ross Summers, all of Holton; three grandchildren, Emma, Olivia and Jackson Summers; and his aunt, Katie Holliday and husband Merle, Topeka.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be held in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
