Mary Turner 1945-2017
Mary E. Turner, 71, Denison, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at her home.
She was born Oct. 11, 1945, at Harrisonville, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Lucy McCall Howdeshell.
Mrs. Turner was a certified nurse aide and a certified medical aide at the Jefferson County Geriatric Center at Winchester when she retired. She had worked as a waitress at the Sunset Dairy Diner and as an equipment operator at Baker Quarry, both in Valley Falls.
She married John Cory on April 14, 1964, at Valley Falls. They divorced. She married Wayne Turner on Oct. 24, 1986, at Oskaloosa. He died July 18, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Anderson; and a grandson, Ethan Cory.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Cory, Denison, and Debbie Nichols and husband Terry, Valley Falls; a son, John A. Cory Jr. and wife Lauren, Joplin, Mo.; a brother, Charles Howdeshell, Decatur, Texas; three sisters, Maria Godfrey, in Missouri, Judy Bouse, St. James, Mo., and Ann Howdeshell, Beavercreek, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
