Dean Tuck 1927-2017
Donald “Dean” Tuck, 89, of Hoyt, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, in Topeka.
He was born Sept. 14, 1927, at home in Hoyt, the son of Marvin and Gladys (Martin) Tuck. He lived his entire life in the Hoyt area. He graduated from Hoyt High School in 1945.
Dean married Alberta Piper on Nov. 28, 1948, in Topeka. She preceded him in death on Nov. 21, 2013.
He retired in 1984 from the Southern Pacific Railroad after 37 years of railroading, which included positions with both the Rock Island and Santa Fe Railroads. He was a farmer and stockman and had his own Feed Service for 20 years.
Dean was a member of the Hoyt United Methodist Church and charter member of the Jackson County Friends of Hospice, where he was instrumental in getting the organization started in 1988.
He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Lucas (Steve) of Basehor and Deanna Culbertson (Lloyd) of Phillipsburg; a son, Ronald Tuck (Lynn) of Hoyt; seven grandchildren, Angie Wilkinson (Zerek), Luke Lucas (Lisa), Kent Culbertson (Toni), Shane Culbertson (Toni), Cory Tuck, Darin Tuck and Kurtis Tuck (Jenna); eight great-grandchildren, Lily and Landry Lucas, Hailey and Thomas Wilkerson, Ivy Culbertson, Justin and Rachel Talcott and Ericka Tuck; and two sisters, Joyce Bausch and June Rickel, both of Mayetta.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lester Tuck; and a sister, Irene Marr.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 6 at Hoyt United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Hoyt Cemetery.
