Ray White 1923-2017
Raymond E. White, 93, Holton, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, in Topeka.
He was born Aug. 30, 1923, in Emmett, the son of Ernest Roosevelt and Anna Lucille Hannah White. He attended Holton schools.
Mr. White served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated Snappy Lunch in Holton for several years during the 1950s. He later worked for Goodyear Tire Company in the management department for more than 33 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Holton, Holton Lions Club, Holton VFW Post 1367 and Holton American Legion Post 44.
He married Violet “Vi” Hopewell on July 2, 1945 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She died May 3, 2011. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn White; and a brother, Gene White.
Survivors include a daughter, Deanna Winters, Topeka; two sons, Glenn White and wife Donna, Topeka, and Gregg White and wife Doris, Perry; a sister, Eileen Griffin, Holton; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends an hour before service time at the funeral home.
