Russel D. Pickett Sr. 1931-2016
Russel D. Pickett Sr., 85, Soldier, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at Medicalodges Jackson County in Holton.
He was born Dec. 8, 1931, in Americus, the son of James Hilliard and Mary Troxell Pickett. He graduated from Americus High School in 1949 and attended Emporia State University.
Mr. Pickett served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. He later worked as a self-employed sheet rocker.
He married Anita Louise Brownfield in 1955. They divorced.
Survivors include three sons, Russel Pickett Jr., Wetmore, Timmothy Dobbins-Pickett, San Francisco, Calif., and Bucke Pickett, Arlington, Texas; a daughter, Susan Harris and husband Chuck, Atchison; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a twin sister, Ramona Funk; and a brother, Jack Pickett.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
