Evelyn Schumann 1933-2016
Evelyn Elaine Schumann of Corona, Calif., passed away on Dec. 14, 2016, at home with family by her side.
She was 83 years old, born Oct. 26, 1933, in Parsons to Merritt and Ada Bickford. Evelyn grew up in Wichita with two older sisters. She graduated from high school in Wichita and went to work for the Post Office.
Evelyn met the love of her life, Don, on a blind date in 1962 and they were married on Jan. 25, 1963. They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary next month. Evelyn and Don moved in 1966 to California, where Evelyn worked at the Naval Weapons Center in Norco until 1968, when they welcomed their only son, Curt, in February of 1968.
Evelyn loved her family, loved reading and writing and was an avid painter. She also enjoyed all things nature, often times painting them to canvas. She loved to see the poppy flowers in Lancaster, Calif., and taking beautiful drives along the coast. Evelyn loved bird watching and in particular hummingbirds.
Evelyn was adored by her husband Don and was the pillar of their family. Don will miss her greatly and has enjoyed the beautiful life they shared together.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Don; son Curt and his wife Stephanie; four grandchildren, Mallory Whalen and her husband Jimmy, Christopher, Nichole and Andrea Schumann; sister Edna Mae and her husband Lynn Young of Kansas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Nadine and Darryl Smith of Kansas; and many nieces and nephews in Kansas. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nadine Harper.
The family wants to thank everyone who has cared for Evelyn over the last few years and held a small private gathering on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at Thomas Miller Mortuary in Corona, Calif., to celebrate her life and would ask in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation or Hospice.
