Marvin Murray 1936-2016

 

Marvin Wayne “Curly” Murray, 80, Hoyt, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at Medicalodges Jackson County.

He was born Jan. 2, 1936, at Rossville, the son of Alfred Robert and Ellen Lucile Myers Murray. He attended Seaman schools and spent most of his life in Topeka.

Mr. Murray farmed and raised cattle.

He attended Hoyt United Meth­odist Church and was a member of Seaman Congregational United Church of Christ, Mayetta Lodge 393, AF&AM, Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies and Arab Shriners.

He married Shelia Janita Fink Clark on April 4, 1998, at Hoyt. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Angela J. Moore, Topeka; a sister, Marcia Harvey, Topeka; a brother, Gary Murray and wife Sherry, Topeka; three granddaughters, Jessica Moore, Topeka, Alicia Miller, Coppras Cove, Texas, and Kelsey Moore, Topeka; and two great-grandchil­dren, Jaxon Mercer and McKinlee Ketter. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Roy Murray, Marlene Case and Frankie Murray.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. In­dependence Ave., followed by Ma­sonic services conducted by Mayetta Lodge 393, AF&AM. In­terment will be held in Half-Day Cemetery, Elmont. Mr. Murray will lie in state after 3 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral chapel, where family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
