Mabel Harris 1929-2016
Mabel J. Harris, 87, Soldier, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at Eastridge Nursing Home in Centralia.
She was born March 2, 1929, in rural Soldier, the daughter of Guy and Angelica Van Valkenburgh Nott. She graduated from Soldier High School in 1948 and had lived all of her life in Soldier.
Mrs. Harris was a farmwife and homemaker. She had also worked for Stauffer Communications in Topeka.
She attended Bucks Grove United Methodist Church and was a Pleasant Valley 4-H club leader.
She married Clinton H. Harris on June 23, 1948, in Kansas City. He died Aug. 15, 1985. She was also preceded in death by three infant grandchildren, James and Angela Lorenzen and Cruzan Trickle.
Survivors include three daughters, Yvonne Trickle and husband Ed, Soldier, Shirley Lorenzen and husband Tim, Charleston, W. Va., and Laveita Harris, Olympia, Wash.; two sons, Clinton “Butch” Harris and wife Dori, Soldier, and Lester Harris and wife Jo, Havensville; a stepson, Gordon Harris, in California; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with burial following in Olive Hill Cemetery.
