Eldon Mulroy 1931-2016

Eldon A. Mulroy, 85, formerly of Goff, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at Vintage Park Assisted Living in Holton.



He was born Nov. 4, 1931, at Olpe, the son of Jerome and Geraldine Driscoll Mulroy. He graduated from Goff High School in 1949.

Mr. Mulroy served in the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant in Okinawa during the Korean War.

 He had farmed and raised cattle with his father, then owned and op­erated E&L Service and Grocery in Goff. He operated the service sta­tion starting in 1962, and in 1984 started selling groceries.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore and a charter member of Wetmore Knights of Columbus Council 10301. He was also a member of Ponce DeLeon 4th Degree Assem­bly 283 in Seneca and Goff Ameri­can Legion Post 316. He served on the Nemaha County Volunteer Fire Department 1 at Goff for more than 40 years and had been the fire chief for more than 25 years. He served on the Sabetha USD 441 school board for 12 years and had been active in 4-H as a youth.



He married Carol Bergman in 1958. They divorced. He married Doris Guilbault on Feb. 2, 1985, in Topeka. She died Dec. 5, 2014.

 He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert Mulroy and Eugene Mulroy.



Survivors include four children, Shelle Arnold and husband Randy, Topeka, Dennis J. Mulroy, Soldier, Judy Mulroy, Aurora, Colo., and Angie Basile and husband Steve, Kearney, Mo.; three stepsons, Dennis K. Guilbault and wife Teresa, Topeka, Patrick "Brian" Guilbault and wife Donna, Mari­etta, Ga., and Mason Guilbault and wife Denise, Buffalo, N.D.; two brothers, Richard Mulroy and wife Lynne, Holton, and Patrick Mulroy and wife Carol, Mayetta; a sister, Alice Macke and husband Don, Se­neca; 11 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.


Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Wetmore Cemetery. Mr. Mulroy will lie in state Friday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton, where a 4th Degree Chalice Service and a Parish Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. with visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
