Irene Mohringer 1917-2016

 

Irene M. Mohringer, 99, Holton, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at Medicaloges Jackson County.

She was born March 2, 1917, in Corning, the daughter of George and Pauline Wilhelm Russ. She graduated from Corning High School in 1934 and received her teaching certificate from Washburn University in 1968.

Mrs. Mohringer was an elemen­tary teacher for country schools from 1941 to 1951 and also taught from 1968 to 1985 for Goff and Wetmore schools. She spent most of her life in Jackson County.

She was a member of Soldier United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, So & So Club and Eastern Star.

She married T.W. “Bill” Mo­hringer on Aug. 26, 1940 in Wet­more. He died April 17, 1997. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Russ Hauldren; and a brother, Oliver Russ.

Survivors include a son, William M. “Bill” Mohringer, Ozawkie.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mercer Fu­neral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Soldier Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson County Friends of Hospice or Irene Mohringer Me­morial Fund, to be designated at a later date and sent in care of Mer­cer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
