Winifred Proctor 1918-2016
Winifred K. Proctor, 98, Topeka, formerly of Holton, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
She was born Sept. 2, 1918, in Port Mercer, N.J., the daughter of Dr. I.H. and Carrie A. Burris Shaw. She graduated from high school in Trenton, N.J., and later received her nursing degree from McKinley Hospital.
Mrs. Proctor served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She was a registered nurse at Veteran’s Hospital in Washington, D.C., in 1940 and 1941 and also in Pennington, N.J., from 1946 to 1952.
She married Kenneth P. Proctor on Aug. 6, 1960, in Waynesville, Mo. He died Dec. 6, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her twin brother, Walter Shaw; two brothers, Henry Shaw and Seth Shaw; and two sisters, Marie Harney and Margaret Shaw.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Proctor, Topeka, and Nancy Piddington, Springfield, Mo.; and a grandson, Kris Proctor.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Holton Cemetery.
