Circleville woman dies in Iowa motorcycle crash
A Circleville woman was killed and her husband injured early Friday in a motorcycle accident in west-central Iowa, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Dejanee Smith, 23, was a passenger on the back of a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven north on Interstate Highway 29 by her husband, Daniel Smith, 54, at about 4 a.m. Friday when the rear tire on the motorcycle blew out near Onawa, about 60 miles north of Omaha, Neb., it was reported.
The blowout caused Daniel Smith to lose control of the motorcycle, which slid off I-29 and into the east ditch. The ISP report stated that neither of the Smiths was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Dejanee Smith was taken by ground ambulance to an Onawa hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Daniel Smith was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, for treatment of injuries.
