Tom Davies 1941-2016

 

Thomas Wayne “Tom” Davies, 74, of Holton, died Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

He was born Sept. 11, 1941, in Concordia, the son of Rowland A. and Isabelle M. Hess Davies. He graduated from Concordia High School in 1959 and attended San Bernardino College in California and also Emporia State University.

Mr. Davies served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 37 years, retiring in 2002.

He served as a past president and member of the USD 336 Board of Education. He was a member of the Holton Optimist Club for many years, serving as past club presi­dent, and he served as a past board member of Holton Main Street, Beck-Bookman Library and Jack­son County Training Center. He was a current board member at Banner Creek Observatory and Sci­ence Center. He was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church, where he was a current member of the DJ’s Sunday school class and had previously taught Sunday school alongside his wife.

He married Diane Johnson in 1964. They divorced. He married Deborah Kay Obley on Feb. 12, 1994, in Holton. She survives.

Other survivors include six chil­dren, Courtney J. Hackey and hus­band Jim, Topeka, Billie J. Bagley  and husband Zac, Liberty Hill, Texas, Rachel E. Moulden and husband Blake, Topeka, Tamara K. Graff and husband Bill, Coraopolis, Pa., Rebecca J. Martin and husband Jack, Holton, and Brian D. Cox and wife Audrey, Topeka; 11 grand­children, Joie Bagley, Maggie Jo, Beau and Thomas Moulden, Dylan and Mason Graff, Levi, Jackson and Abbygail Martin and Ellis and Cooper Cox; and two brothers, Gary Davies and wife Nancy, McKinney, Texas, and John Davies and wife Louise, Wichita.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Evangel United Methodist Church Family Life Center. Private family inurn­ment will be held in Holton Cemetery.
