Sammie Blanton Jr. 1970-2016
Sammie Joe Blanton Jr., 45, Everest, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016.
He was born March 31, 1970, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Sam and Mary LaLond Blanton.
Mr. Blanton owned and operated S&S Towing. Prior to that he worked for Horton USD 430 at the elementary school’s head custodian.
He married Teresa Meyer on Sept. 16, 1988, in Hiawatha. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter Katie Blanton and fiance Eric Purvis, Whiting; two sons, Timothy Blanton and wife Marissa, Horton, and Lukas Blanton, of the home; three grandchildren, Raelynn and Tucker Blanton and Joseph Purvis; his parents, Sam and Mary Blanton, Horton; three brothers, Louis Blanton and Chris Long, both of Horton, and Bill Long, Cameron, Mo.; a sister, Pebble Hare, in North Dakota; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Haverkamp.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, where family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be held in Horton City Cemetery.
