Schneider named new chief of police for Tribe

Wade Schneider was recently named the new chief of police for the Prairie Band Potawatomi Tribal Police Department.

A native of Oskaloosa, Schneider began working as an officer for the Tribe in 2000. He was promoted to shift sergeant in 2001 and then detective in 2006. He was named assistant chief in 2013, and was officially named chief of police Nov. 4. 

Prior to working for the Tribe, Schneider worked for Perry and Winchester Police Departments from 1998 to 2000. 

He graduated from the Topeka Police Academy in 2000 and has received additional training and certification in criminal investigations, forensic science and death investigations. 

He recently graduated from the Kansas Certified Public Manager (CPM) program at The University of Kansas Public Management Center.

He is currently a junior at Fort Hays State University studying criminal justice. 

The Prairie Band Police Department has 21 staff members, including 12 officers.

Schneider lives in Meriden with his wife, Cristy, and their daughter, Sydney.

Schneider replaces Shawn Walker.
