Community Band slates special Christmas performance
For the past three years, the Jackson County Community Band has brought a few more smiles to Holton’s Town Square over the summer.
This holiday season, however, the community band is looking to start a new tradition — a Christmas concert, to be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20 in the Holton High School auditorium.
“I’m hoping this will be an annual event for the community band,” said Holton middle and high school band director Jayme Malsom, who is working with Jackson Heights band and music teacher Laura Holliday to organize the Dec. 20 concert.
Local musicians who have played with the community band over the past three summers have been invited to participate, and Malsom said the band is always open to new members who are ready to play. However, he noted, the rehearsals for the Christmas concert will be done differently.
“This is not going to be like a normal summer concert cycle,” he said. “We are going to have a rehearsal starting at 1:30 p.m. on the afternoon of the concert in the auditorium.”
Malsom also noted that he is looking for “a good number of folks” to turn out for that one rehearsal, however, and the song selection will be announced at a later date.
