Three people injured in Sunday accident on 75
Three people were hospitalized after a two-vehicle accident occurred on U.S. Highway 75 between Mayetta and Hoyt on Sunday afternoon.
Shortly after 4 p.m., the Kansas Highway Patrol reports that a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Ramon Alexander Noriega, 78, Mayetta, entered the highway from 134th Road and turned north when it was struck from behind by a 2004 Pontiac driven by Luke Ostergard, 24, North Platte, Neb.
After being struck, the pickup left the highway and rolled, coming to rest on its top, it was reported.
The drivers of both vehicles were transported by Jackson County EMS to Stormont-Vail Regional HealthCare Center in Topeka with disabling injuries. A passenger in the pickup, Leatrice Noriega, 69, Mayetta, was life flighted by Lifestar to Stormont-Vail, it was reported.
According to the accident report, none of the occupants in the vehicles were wearing seatbelts.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the Mayetta Fire Department, Potawatomi Fire Department, Jackson County EMS, Kansas Department of Transportation and Potawatomi Tribal Police also responded.
