Alberta Harmer 1932-2026

Alberta J. Harmer, 93, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, at her home in Topeka.

She was born Oct. 11, 1932, in Franklin Township near Marysville, the daughter of Albert and Elnora C. Blocker Hoffman. She graduated from Marysville High School.

Mrs. Harmer worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 32 years.

She married Robert “Jim” Rowland. They divorced. She married Paul Harmer on Dec. 24, 1962, in Marysville. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Joshua Harmer; and a sister, Geraldine Hoffman.

Survivors include two sons, Bob Rowland and wife Deena and Jon Harmer and wife Dianna, all of Topeka; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. A dinner will follow at Westlake Shelter House at Gage Park. Burial will be held later in Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.
