Anna Zwygart 1933-2026

Anna Kathryn (Patterson) Zwygart, 92, known by many as “Kathryn,” “Kate,” “Katie” or “Mama Z,” passed away Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Healthcare Resort in Topeka.

She was born Sept. 4, 1933, at Rock Creek to William Doyle and Anna Christine (Deppe) Patterson. Kate attended school at Rock Creek and Ozawkie – she was a 1951 graduate of Ozawkie High School.

She married Glen “Bud” Zwygart on Dec. 31, 1951; Bud passed away in 1986.

Kathryn and Bud farmed north of Ozawkie, where Paradise Point is, until Perry Lake was put in. In 1965, they moved to Onaga and continued to farm. In 1974, they became partners in a Ford dealership in Pawnee City, Neb. In 1975, they moved back to the Ozawkie/Valley Falls area when they bought a Chevrolet dealership – Zwygart Chevrolet. Due to unfortunate economic times, they closed it in 1985.

Kate went to work for the State of Kansas in about 1986 and worked there until 2011. She loved to play cards and played a lot of pitch at the Ozawkie American Legion, Perry American Legion and Meriden VFW and a couple of other places in Topeka.

In 2020, she moved to Linnwood Place in Valley Falls, then in 2021, she moved to Healthcare Resort in Topeka. She loved sports, especially baseball! If the kids or grandkids were playing any kind of ball, she would be there cheering them on!

Kate was a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 225 in Ozawkie and a life-time member of VFW Auxiliary Post 10815 in Meriden. She was a past member of the Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, Mt. Pleasant Grange, Community Clubs, Red Hat Society and many other organizations.

Survivors include her children, Bill Zwygart, Springfield, Mo., Kathy and Doug Simpson, Meriden, Jim and Debbie Zwygart, Meriden, Karen and Bob Ehrhart, Hoyt, and Randy Zwygart, Meriden; her grandchildren, Marcus Zwygart, Marcie Zwygart, Allison Colvin, Katie Tomky, Rachel Luthi, Eric Zwygart, Drew Pruett, Devan Zwygart, Nick Ehrhart, Taylor Zwygart and Tanner Zwygart; her great-grandchildren, Logan, Kammi, Jaxon and Ilyssa Tomky, Kya, Rylan, Trey and Karsyn Colvin, Layken and Cale Luthi, Isabel Casto, Mason and Layla Pruett and CJ Zwygart, Cohen Zwygart, Oakley and Beau Ehrhart. Kathryn’s children would like to thank everyone at Healthcare Resort for the excellent care that she received while she lived there. She considered the healthcare workers and the residents to be some of her closest friends! Thank you to Elara Caring for the hospice care that she received.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Healthcare Resort Activities Dept., American Legion Post #225 Scholarship Fund or the Meriden VFW Post 10815 Scholarship fund.
