Six injured in Saturday evening minivan crash
Six people from Nebraska and Iowa were sent to a Topeka hospital for treatment after being injured in a two-minivan crash Saturday evening south of Holton, Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse said.
The accident, which occurred at about 6:45 p.m. that evening at the intersection of U.S. Highway 75 and 190th Road, involved a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by 80-year-old Ronald Miller of Clarks, Neb., and a 2007 Chevrolet Uplander minivan driven by Cindi Davidson, 43, of Humeston, Iowa.
According to Morse, Miller was attempting to drive the Chrysler minivan across U.S. 75 at 190th when he reportedly failed to yield to Davidson and the Chevrolet minivan, and the two vehicles collided. Morse also noted that both vehicles received “extensive damage.”
Miller had to be extricated from his vehicle before being transported by LifeStar helicopter ambulance to Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka, Morse said. A passenger in the Chrysler minivan, Peggy Miller, 75, of Clarks, Neb., also was taken to Stormont-Vail for treatment of injuries.
Davidson and four passengers in her vehicle — John Hoffmann, 45, Ashley Hofmann, 18, and Zachary Hofmann, 13, all of Humeston, Iowa, and Donald Anderson, 27, of Chariton, Iowa — also received various injuries. Morse said four of the five occupants of Davidson’s vehicle were transported to Stormont-Vail by ambulance, but did not specify whom.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Potawatomi Tribal Police and Fire, the Kansas Highway Patrol and fire departments from Hoyt and Mayetta at the accident scene, it was reported. The accident remains under investigation.
