Single-vehicle accident claims woman's life

A single-vehicle rollover accident that occurred about a mile south of Holton on U.S. Highway 75 on Monday morning claimed the life of a Holton woman, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Janita Jordan, 44, was identified as the fatality victim in the accident, which occurred at about 9:15 a.m. just south of the intersection of U.S. 75 and 214th Road. The accident closed one of the two southbound lanes of U.S. 75 for about two hours, it was reported.

According to the KHP report, Jordan was driving a 2012 Kia Sedona north on U.S. 75 when, for an unknown reason, the Sedona drifted to the left and rolled several times. The Sedona then landed on its top side in the highway median.

Jordan, who reportedly was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the accident, was pronounced dead at the scene, it was reported.

Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse, who assisted with investigation of the accident, said Tuesday it was believed that Jordan was heading home to Holton after working all night in Topeka and after stopping in Mayetta to have breakfast with her family when the accident occurred.

Traffic on both southbound lanes of U.S. 75 were reopened at about 11:30, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation. KHP was assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in investigating the fatality accident.

Jordan’s death was the first traffic accident fatality of 2016 in Jackson County, it was noted.
