Sheriff's department receives grant for mobile data units

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was notified recently by the Kansas Criminal Justice Coordinating Council and Attorney General Derek Schmidt that it has received the Federal Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.

The sheriff’s office will be awarded $72,520, and the funds will be used for mobile data units for patrol vehicles, it was reported.

Mobile data units or terminals assist law enforcement in being able to have immediate access to the criminal justice system while remaining in the field.

Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse said deputies will not only be able to access criminal justice information, but they will be able to complete reports in their patrol vehicles eliminating the need for them to leave their assigned patrol zones.
