Saturday is Family Movie Night on the Square

Saturday, July 9, is “Family Movie Night” on the Holton Square.

The annual event will include food, activities and a free showing of the movie “Nanny McPhee.”

The event is sponsored by the Holton/Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and the fun kicks off at 6 p.m. with fire truck rides, a bounce house and an obstacle course by the Holton Fire Department. 

The On Target For Christ group will be providing an archery range activity on the Courtyard as well, it was reported. 

Members of Boy Scout Troop #64 will be selling hot dogs, popcorn and water for $1 each that evening. Proceeds from the sales will be split between the troop and the Chamber.  

The public is invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets for the movie, which will be shown on the east side of the Jackson County Courthouse at dark.

In “Nanny McPhee,” widower Cedric Brown (Colin Firth) hires Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson) to care for his seven rambunctious children, who have chased away all previous nannies. 

Nanny McPhee uses mystical powers to instill discipline. When the children’s great-aunt and benefactor, Lady Adelaide Stitch (Angela Lansbury), threatens to separate the kids, the family pulls together under the guidance of Nanny McPhee.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled for a future date.
