Netawaka Fitness Center hosting logo contest

It took a bit of time to work out the kinks, but the Netawaka Fitness Center is now hitting its stride, and membership is growing at a smooth pace, it has been reported.

With so many things to do after the 30,000-square foot, state of the art facility was opened, the staff never got around to designing a proper logo to use for highway signage, letterheads, posters, advertisements and t-shirts, it was reported.

Three professional artists were recently commissioned to design several potential logos for the center. Taking their tasks seriously, they began by researching the history of Netawaka.

The artists learned that the town was founded by Potawatomi Native Americans in 1866 and that Netawaka means “Grand View.”

That background inspired one of the artists to include a “swirl of green” into the design to represent the area’s rolling hills and a gold circle for the setting sun, while another artist added a bit of Native Indian flare to the logo.

After studying the samples, the NFC staff selected the top five designs and are asking the public for help.

The staff decided the winning logo would be determined by a contest of public votes. The logos were unveiled at the Oct. 3 open house event, and members and guests were asked to cast early votes for their favorite.

And now, to add a little fun and more opinions to the process, the staff is letting the public get into the game. They’re asking everyone to vote and possibly win a free t-shirt with the winning logo on it.

But, before the voting begins, the staff would like to know if any talented designers or artists would like to create an additional NFC logo design of their own to add to the choices.

If so, send the design to the address at the end of this article.  If it proves to be the winner, it will result in a $100 prize or a year’s free membership at the center.

In the meantime, the staff wants help to narrow down the five designs they already have. So, to get involved in the contest, study the five logo designs published here, then cast your vote by simply indicating the number next to your favorite.

You can vote by e-mail, by regular mail or by stopping in at the center. Votes cannot be cast by phone. Be sure to include your name and address with your vote because you may win a free t-shirt.

The winner will be determined by majority vote after the voting deadline, which has been set for Nov. 1. And if the logo you voted for proves to be the winner, you’ll be able to stop by the center and pick up a free t-shirt with the logo on it.

The staff will have your entry with your name and vote on file for evidence that you voted for the winning logo. So you’ll be able to wear the shirt with the logo you helped select.

By coming to the center to pick it up, you’ll also have the opportunity to tour the non-profit venue and see all that it offers at low cost.

While more than 300 current members call it “The Gem Of All Gyms,” this expansive facility (it covers half a block) is truly a health and wellness center as well.

Located at the junction of U.S. Highway 75 and Kansas Highway 9, the center includes a heated indoor pool, weight room, batting cages, basketball and volleyball court, cardio and aerobics equipment, walking lanes, locker rooms and showers, the Snappy Inn Café and childcare facilities.

To vote for your favorite logo by e-mail, send to: della.nfc@gmail.com, put “Logo Contest” in the subject line, indicate your vote with one of the five numbers, then add your name and address.

To vote by regular mail, supply the same information and send to:

“Logo Contest,” Netawaka Fitness Center, 233 White Way St., Netawaka KS 66516.
