Meet Your Doctors: Dr. Malia Warner

Dr. Malia Warner was inspired by her father, who served as the doctor in the small town of Metaline Falls, Wash., to pursue a career in family medicine. 

“My father actually delivered me because he was the only doctor there,” said Dr. Warner, who has practiced family medicine at Holton Community Hospital for almost six years.

Dr. Warner graduated from Hope High School in Hope, Kan. after her family moved to Woodbine. Her father, who was also an Army Colonel, was appointed as the Commanding Officer of Irwin Army Hospital at Ft. Riley. 

After high school, Dr. Warner received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from The University of Rochester in New York. 

She earned her master’s degree in chemistry from The University of Iowa and her doctorate from The University of Kansas School of Medicine in 2006. 

Dr. Warner completed the Smoky Hill Family Medicine Residency Program in Salina before she was hired to practice family medicine at Holton Community Hospital.

She said her favorite part about Jackson County is its people. She and her husband, Jeff, have three sons and two daughters. They are members of St. Dominic Catholic Church. 

“My hobbies include keeping up with my children,” she said. “As a family, we enjoy outdoor activities.”

Dr. Warner said that her best medical advice is to eat healthy, exercise daily and don’t smoke.
