Holton's Burger King being remodeled

Holton’s Burger King restaurant is undergoing an inside-and-out makeover as the restaurant prepares to celebrate two decades in town, it was reported.

“We have been at this location for almost 20 years, and it is time for a major facelift. Our guests can expect a fresh new exterior look and a new look and feel to our dining room as well,” said Nicole Skarp of Horizon Holding Inc., the Lincoln, Neb. firm that manages the Burger King in Holton and other cities in Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota.

Interior and exterior renovation work began last week on the restaurant building, which was originally a Hardee’s, then was taken over by Horizon and converted into a Burger King in September of 1996. Skarp said the restaurant will remain open during the renovation period, save for a few days when the restaurant will be completely closed for kitchen renovations.

The new look of the restaurant, Skarp said, will be in line with Burger King’s “20/20 look,” which she described as “a little bit more modern image.”

“We’re not going to have that slanted roof anymore,” she said. “It’s going to have more of a sleek look, up and down, from the outside.”

Inside, the restaurant will also be completely redone.

“There’s going to be new booths, new lighting, new flooring, new countertops — the works,” Skarp said. “I don’t think we’re going to salvage anything that’s in there now.”

The kitchen will also get a complete makeover, including new broilers, Skarp said. New kitchen equipment will also make it possible for shorter wait times for food, whether customers are picking it up at the drive-through window or dining at the restaurant.

Skarp also said that while there is no set date for completion of the renovations, it is expected that the work will be finished in early July.

“We are proud to be a part of the Holton business community, and we want our look to match that pride,” she added.

Horizon Holding Inc. is a franchisee of Burger King Corporation and operates 24 restaurants, including four in Topeka. The company’s newest addition is a recently-completed Burger King in Manhattan, it was reported.
