Holton man killed, wife hurt in Atchison Co. motorcycle accident
A motorcycle accident Sunday in Atchison County claimed the life of a Holton man and critically injured his wife, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The KHP reports that Wayne Edwin Dodd, 72, Holton, was driving a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on U.S. Highway 159 about three miles north of Nortonville when he failed to negotiate his motorcycle around a curve and it left the road to the right.
The motorcycle struck a culvert, and both Dodd and his wife, Georgina L. Dodd, 55, were ejected. Neither were wearing a helmet, according to the report.
The exact time of the incident has yet to be determined, and troopers do not know how long the couple waited for medical attention. Troopers were called to the accident around 2 p.m., it was reported.
Mr. Dodd was pronounced dead on the scene, and Mrs. Dodd was taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka for treatment of “disabling” injuries.
The motorcycle was towed from the scene.
