Holton man arrested on murder charges

A Holton man was arrested here Tuesday on second-degree murder charges for his alleged involvement in the death of his wife on Oct. 21, 2015, according to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse.

George E. Fleshman Jr., 66, was taken into custody by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office Tuesday morning at his home at 418 Nebraska St. in connection with the death of his wife, Elizabeth Jane Fleshman, 62, Sheriff Morse said.

At 9:38 p.m. on Oct. 20, Morse said, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the Fleshman residence.

Mr. Fleshman allegedly told dispatchers that he had found his wife unresponsive. Elizabeth Fleshman was transported by Jackson County EMS to Holton Community Hospital and then later to St. Francis Hospital in Topeka where she died the next day, it was reported.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into her death due to "suspicious circumstances," Morse said.

An autopsy was performed on Mrs. Fleshman’s body by Frontier Forensics in Kansas City, and the results reportedly concluded that her death had resulted from a trauma to her spleen, Morse said.

As a part of the ongoing investigation, the sheriff’s office served a search warrant on Fleshman’s residence Tuesday morning, and arrested Fleshman on a charge of second-degree murder.

He was booked into the Jackson County Jail. Bond is still pending.
