Thirteen-year-old Olivia Yingst (right) found herself having to deal with a somewhat unruly crossbred market steer at Tuesday’s Jackson County Fair beef show at the Northeast Kansas Heritage Complex, but the struggle paid off in the end. Yingst’s animal was named grand champion market steer of the show by judge Kayla Bodenhausen (center), after being named best heavyweight crossbred steer and best overall crossbred steer. Raygan Fund (left) of the Delia Early Birds took home grand champion market hog honors with her Yorkshire market hog during the Jackson County Swine Show. Fund is pictured with judge Danny Davis of Maple Hill. Fund's crossbred hog was named the reserve champion market hog, and Fund was also named senior showman during the event.

For the second year in a row, Judd Nelson (right) of the Pleasant Valley Rustlers 4-H Club won grand champion market lamb honors at the Jackson County Fair, this year with a heavyweight crossbred lamb that was also named best in its particular category during the sheep show on Monday. Nelson — shown with sheep show judge Josh Abeldt (center) and 4-H Ambassador Dean Klahr — also showed the top heavyweight Hampshire market lamb and the top Dorset ewe at the sheep show.
