Fuses blamed at first for weekend power outages
Power outages on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning in an area near the intersection of U.S. Highway 75 and Kansas Highway 16 in Holton have been attributed to blown fuses on the city’s “central circuit,” according to Holton Electrical Production Superintendent Ira Harrison.
What caused the fuses to blow was not immediately determined, since the same incident occurred twice in the same place on the circuit, Harrison said. An electrical crew is investigating the circuit today to attempt to determine what caused the two outages, he added.
It was reported that the first of the two outages occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, prompting local law enforcement officers to get to the intersection to direct traffic. The blown fuses were identified and replaced at that time, Harrison said.
However, the fuses blew again at the same location at 7:40 a.m. Saturday, Harrison said. In each case, fuses were replaced and power was restored in about an hour, he added.
