Former RVMS principal Davis named USD 337 superintendent

Aaric Davis has been hired as the new superintendent at USD 337 Royal Valley.

During a special meeting of the board of education Wednesday evening, the board offered the superintendent position to Davis for the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years. The action was taken after a 10-minute executive session, it was reported.

Davis is replacing current Superintendent John Rundle, who is set to retire at the end of the school year. Rundle has served as superintendent for 15 years.

Davis, who is currently the principal at Hartford Jr./Sr. High School in Lyon County, will begin serving as superintendent on July 1, it was reported. 

Davis previously worked at Royal Valley for 12 years, teaching math and then serving as the assistant high school principal and then the middle school principal.

Originally from rural Emporia, Davis graduated from Northern Heights High School and then earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary mathematics from Emporia State University.

Davis taught math at Royal Valley High School for seven years. He was also the freshman boys basketball coach for four years and also coached high school track and cross country at the high school.

He received his master’s degree in administration from Emporia in May 2006 and then served as the assistant high school principal at RV from 2008-2011. He was then promoted to the middle school principal position in 2011 and served in that role until 2013.

At that time, Davis took a principal position in Southern Lyon County USD 252 in order to be closer to some extended family, it was reported.

Davis and his wife, Carrie, have three children.

Besides Davis, the board of education also interviewed Dr. Kelly Arnberger and Jerry Hodson to fill the position.
