Fair Parade to get an earlier start this year
The Jackson County 4-H Fair parade has been scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, which is half an hour earlier than previous years.
The reason for the time change is to allow 4-H members more time to head to the new fairgrounds after the parade for the start of the talent show and then fashion revue, according to Cara Robinson, 4-H program manager. Previously, the fashion revue had been held on Friday evening the week of the fair.
The talent show is set to begin at 8:30 p.m. that Wednesday at the Margaret Hund Memorial Amphitheater at the Northeast Kansas Heritage Complex, which is located three miles south of Holton off of U.S. Highway 75 on the west side of the highway.
Line-up for the parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. and check-in stations include:
* 4-H and FCE: Sixth Street between New York and Wisconsin avenues. These floats will be judged and eligible for ribbons.
* Politicians and elected officials: Sixth Street between Wisconsin and Iowa avenues.

The parade begins at the intersection of Fifth Street and New York Avenue and then heads east on Fifth, circles Holton’s Town Square, returns to the starting point and then, as in years past, will conclude at Fifth Street and Dakota Avenue to the former fairbuilding, it was reported.
Parade participants are advised not to throw candy or other items from floats and instead walk along the parade route and hand out candy and other items.
After the parade, many people are expected to head to the new fairgrounds. The Northeast Kansas Heritage Complex can be accessed by traveling south U.S. 75 and turning west on 214th Road or by driving south on P Road in front of the Holton Cemetery and then turning east on 214th Road.
