DSB's Birkbeck honored by Kansas Ag Bankers
The Kansas Ag Bankers, a division of the Kansas Bankers Association, is pleased to announce that Jim Birkbeck of Holton is the recipient of its 2015 Pioneer Award.
The Pioneer Award is presented to an agricultural banker that exemplifies the best in agricultural lending by continually bringing credit to his profession and the entire agricultural banking community.
Birkbeck began his banking career in 1964 as a correspondent banker and serviced many small community and ag banks in Kansas. He joined Denison State Bank in 1972 and has presided over the bank for 38 years, it was reported.
Birkbeck has contributed considerable time, energy and expertise to the banking profession through his involvement with numerous boards at the local, state and national levels, including as board chairman for the Kansas Bankers-Ag Reps (KBAR), the Bankers’ Bank of Kansas board of directors and the American Bankers Association’s Ag Committee.
Birkbeck also manages CRP land in Jackson County, and, along with his brother, owns and operates Birkbeck Family Farms south of Burlington. He and his wife, Mary Lou, have been married for 50 years and enjoy two children and five grandchildren.
